Does Apple Cider Vinegar Cure BV?

Does Apple Cider Vinegar Cure BV?

There’s a lot of discussion across websites and forums on the internet about whether apple cider vinegar is a good natural cure for BV.  Apple cider vinegar has been used for centuries for all sorts of purposes some of which were unrelated to health (pickling, as a cleaning agent and even for polishing suits of armor!).  However, in more recent years, it has also become one of the  most recommended natural remedies on the Internet.

Recent ACV Research.  While much of the medical establishment has scoffed at the use of ACV for health purposes, there have been many studies recently that have proven that  apple cider can help with many conditions including obesity, diabetes and vaginal infections.  In terms of bacterial vaginosis, it has been shown that apple cider vinegar’s acidity helps to restore the vagina’s natural pH levels to prevent the continued overgrowth of gardnerella bacteria.  In addition, the ACV has antibacterial properties which help to kill the bacteria off.

What Women Are Saying About Apple Cider Vinegar.  Many women I’ve talked to have confirmed the benefits of apple cider vinegar for BV treatment.  For example one woman  I talked to  had been suffering from BV since she gave birth to her first child about 5 years ago.  She had tried both metronidazole and clindamycin and neither of them had worked.  Then just about two months ago she started douching with apple cider vinegar twice a week and taking a daily probiotic supplement.  Her BV disappeared almost immediately and the symptoms haven’t returned since.  This story is pretty typical of the results that many women have experienced with apple cider vinegar.

One word of caution about using ACV to treat BV.  I would not suggest using it full strength.  Some women that have tried applying it full strength either as a douche or to the outside of the vagina have experienced discomfort and burning.  Although there is little chance of any permanent harm, using ACV undiluted can be quite painful!

Apple Cider Vinegar Douche Recipe.  To make an apple cider vinegar douche to treat your BV, simply add three tablespoons of raw apple cider vinegar to two quarts (2 liters) of water.  (I highly suggest that you purchase the ACV from a health food store rather than using regular cooking apple cider vinegar.)   Douche twice a day with this mixture using a regular douching kit that can be obtained at your local pharmacy.  If you would prefer not to douche, you can also use an apple cider vinegar soaked tampon or pour the solution into a sits bath and use it as an apple cider vinegar bath.

In summary, douching with ACV is an excellent way to treat BV and, in my opinion, comes second only to hydrogen peroxide.  For best results, also make sure that you incorporate a probiotic supplement into your diet and always consume plenty of H2O!  Read more about natural bv cures here.

  1. BV Nightmares!! says:

I’ve suffered from BV/Yeast infections for about 3years already. I’ve tried the OTC Stuff, prescriptions, the hydrogen peroxide mix and nothing seems to work. I have yet to try this apple cider vinegar mix though. After work today I am going to try and find it so I can immediately try it and find out if this works for me. I hope it does! I’ve read many success stories but it seems like every woman is different. I hope I find my cure soon because this infection is sooooooo annoying to have and my boyfriend just doesn’t understand what I’m going through with this. It sucks!

I tried itbusing the tampon method. For two days I put a tampon and left the tampon in for 30 mins each time and NO MORE SMELL by the third day. Think I will do this for a week. Also I am taking vitamin d 6000 a day and taking probiotics.

ACV is great for so many things! Cleaning, removing odors, hair loss, ph balance, overall health etc,.. I got a horrible itchy infection down there with an odd smell to follow and had just recently read about the benefits of ACV. This has been about 2years ago now! Anyway, the infection got so uncomfortable I took a tampon and had a mixture of ACV/Water and dunked the tampon into the mixture quickly and put it in. The itching had immediately stopped and by the next day all the itching and odor problems had diminished. I only left the tampon in for about an hour or so, but that is all it takes for me. Now anytime I feel one coming on I do this and it takes care of it almost immediately. Recently I did douche with ACV only because I felt one coming on, otherwise I do not douche.

My theory is if you take a bath any at all then some water is getting up in there and our bodies know how to take care of it’s self. It may not make sense, but I notice with my self I get a lot more BV’s now since our bathroom with a tub is not working and I have just been using our shower in the other bathroom. I only feel giving my self help down there when I know it needs some outside help.

  5. Ifixed it says:

I had on and off BV. I recently started to use ACV to lose weight, the mixture is 1 tablespoon, cup of boiled water and dash of lemon.
I noticed that my vagina was super fresh. Usually during my period it has a funky smell. Now it was back to normal. I use to have a scentless Vajay vajay. Drinking in it, is so amazing! So many other benefits.
